In Russia, new political prisoners arise almost every day. Already thousands of people are sitting in jail for their words, for not being able to remain silent. Some have been imprisoned for attempting to resist. People are judged and imprisoned. Often in their last speech before the sentence is pronounced — in the last word — they express important thoughts, sharing their feelings and emotions at that moment. The "Last Word" project collects notable last words spoken across the post-Soviet space and in the USSR, but above all — the last words of modern Russian political prisoners. This Saturday, we will hold a meeting in our space where we will read the last words of political prisoners gathered within the project. We will remember the people who spoke these words and discuss the importance and value of these last statements. The meeting will be led by: ● Tatyana Sporysheva — a human rights activist from Rostov-on-Don. ● Grigory Mashanov — an anti-corruption lawyer. ● Gleb Muraveynik — a designer of the newspaper for political prisoners "Prison Herald." ● Oleg Yelanchik — a human rights defender from "Memorial," assistant to Lev Ponomarev. 📆 July 5, 17:00. 📍 Betlemi, 23. Free entrance. Registration via the link in the profile.
