Join us for an exciting excursion to the Pantheon on Mtatsminda: from Griboedov to Stalin's Mother. This event will explore how collective memory works and the complexities of historical narratives in Georgia. We will discuss the importance of maintaining collective memory and how it intersects with contemporary perceptions of the Soviet past, including Stalinism and its implications for Georgian society today. During the excursion, you'll witness significant graves, including that of the author of "Gore ot Uma," Alexander Griboedov, and his wife, Nina Chavchavadze. Also featured will be the tomb of Stalin's mother, which faced demolition, and the first monument in Georgia to the victims of political repression. Learn about the selection criteria for those worthy of reburial at the Pantheon and the grim stories related to the reburials of Bolsheviks during deregulation in Georgia. The pantheon excursion will be partly multimedia, with short videos showcasing the individuals buried here. This excursion is led by Anna Sergienko, a journalist and professional guide. Duration: 2 hours. Meeting point: at the entrance to the Pantheon. Cost to participate: 50₾. Registration through our bot or direct message.
